Take on the sham senate trial

Trump's latest defense against being removed from office is that in his eyes if the democrats ran a sham impeachment, the senate should run a sham one in the Senate too.
Of course nobody actually believes Trump is innocent of anything but we are all aware that he's likely to get away with it as he has a more loyal following than any president in history. The stain of impeachment won't hurt him with his loyalist, only emboldening them which is even more problematic.
The chance of him being re-elected seem more than just a faint possibility at this point and unless there is a record turnout I'm thinking that we are staring right down the barrel of another Trump victory
